How to Switch Your Number from WhatsApp to WhatsApp Business?

If you’re ready to take your professional communication to the next level, migrating your personal WhatsApp number to the WhatsApp Business app is a seamless process. This guide will walk you through the transition while ensuring your chat history and media remain intact.

Pre-Migration Checklist

  • Back up your data: Ensure your current WhatsApp is backed up to Google Drive or iCloud.

  • Keep your phone on: Do not close the apps during the transfer.

  • One app at a time: Remember, a single phone number cannot be active on both the private and business apps simultaneously.

Step-by-Step Migration Guide

1. Install and Initialize

  • Download WhatsApp Business from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.

  • Open the app and tap Agree and Continue to accept the Terms of Service.

2. Select Your Number

  • The app will automatically detect the number currently used on your private WhatsApp.

  • Tap on the button: Use [Your Number] to begin the migration.

3. Grant Permissions

To ensure a smooth transfer of your existing chats and media, you must grant the app access to your device:

  • When prompted, tap Continue then Allow for:

    • Contacts

    • Music and Audio

    • Photos and Videos

4. Verify and Transfer

  • WhatsApp will send a 6-digit verification code via SMS to your number. The app usually detects this automatically.

  • Once verified, the Transfer in progress screen will appear. This may take a few minutes depending on the size of your chat history.

    Note: Do not close the app during this stage.

5. Create Your Business Profile

Once the transfer is complete, you’ll set up your professional identity:

  • Business Name: Enter your business name (Note: This is difficult to change later).

  • Category: Select the category that best fits your business (e.g., Hotel, Education, or Retail).

  • Profile Picture: Add a clear logo or professional photo.

  • Business Details: Enter your business address, description, and opening hours.

6. Finalize Backup Settings

  • Choose your backup frequency (Daily, Weekly, or Monthly) and select the Google/iCloud account where you want to store your data.

  • Tap Done.

What Happens to the Private App?

Once the process is finished, your private WhatsApp app will display a message stating: "You have been logged out." This confirms that your number has successfully moved to the Business platform. You can now explore "Business Tools" like Quick Replies, Labels, and Catalogs!
